Summer 2005 Short Story Contest

It’s time again for the Shattered Enigma short story contest, and this year there are some changes a-foot. We are introducing a division system to the contest, which is simple and will allow all prizes to go to you guys, the members. There are now two divisions – a staff division, which obviously is for Shattered Enigma staff, and an open division, which is for the rest of our wonderful authors.

As you are accustomed to, voting will take place after the closing date found below. Two rounds of voting will be held, one for each division. A winner and runner-up will be found in each division, however it will be only the open division that is eligible for prizes – that means you are the ones who will be getting the great prizes, no matter what!

Entry is easy. You need not worry about which division is the one you need to enter into, as our fiction department will handle all sorting for you. Completed entries can be emailed to fiction@shatteredenigma.com

The winner and runner-up of the open division will both receive a fantastic custom made banner graphic for their entry. Depending on the number of entrants, a monetary prize may also be offered!

Entries close at midnight on the 31st of July, Central Standard Time. All entries received after this time will be considered late and will not be accepted in the contest. If you live outside the CST time zone and are unsure how to calculate the time appropriately, visit http://www.worldtimezone.com/ to find out what time the deadline falls in your time zone.

So without further ado, here are the guidelines so you can get writing.

  • Entries must be set in the Starcraft, Diablo or Warcraft universes.
  • Entry cannot appear on any other website prior or during the contest.
  • Entries may or may not be kept within Shattered Enigma’s archives at the completion of the contest.
  • No proofreading and editing will be performed on submissions aside from basic formatting necessary to place the entry on the site.
  • One short story per entrant.
  • Entry length must be no longer than 10,000 words.

Good luck to all entrants!
